Our History

Axell–Eames was opened in its current form on the 23rd of September 2006, to restart a long running family tradition in the funeral business. We remain a truly independent funeral company, run entirely by family members.

The Axell family have been in the Weald area for several generations, mainly around Heathfield, dating back to the 1800’s where we were funeral directors, farm workers and builders.

Today the building and funeral directing continues.

Nikkie now runs the office, and handles all dealings with families personally, conducts the funerals and guides you through all of the stages from initial contact through to, and, including the funeral itself. As a qualified embalmer, Nikkie also takes care of the deceased, which may include hygienically treating (embalming), dressing the deceased and preparing the chapel of rest in which loved ones can come and say their final goodbyes.

The rest of the family support Nikkie by carrying out the removals of the deceased and returning them back to our chapel of rest, prepare and make the coffins and act as lead bearers, to ensure that transporting to the chosen venue is extremely dignified right to the final goodbye.

We pride ourselves on treating each funeral service individually, and with the utmost compassion and dignity.

In short, we treat your family, as we would expect to treat our own. We will always meet and exceed all the wishes and requirements of the families and deceased.
